Tema High School was established at the time when the Ministry of Education in Ghana had conceived the idea of de-boardenising schools to alleviate the problems of high boarding fees and to increase the intake of day students. It was also in response to meet the increasing demands for vacancies in high technical schools in the Tema Township, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, hence the conversion of the Community 10 No.2 Middle school into model day school known as Tema High School with the motto: 'Discipline and Hardwork'.


The school is situated in Tema Community 10.It is a modern school with a population of 950 student.The school is based and also works under the G.E.S which is the Ghana Education Service.The school has ever since been rated as one of the best modern school in the metropolis.The school offer the major courses suitable for students and also prepare them for the West African Examination.The school has dedicated teachers who put in lots of efforts to make the school one of the best in Ghana today.

 
The school was formally opened on the 12th of January 1990 with a double stream of 330 students. The school offers the following pro grammes: Genaral Science,Visual Art,Home Economics,Business and Agricultural Studies.The school from its humble beginnings rose up to fame within a short period and chalked very impressive successes in the academic field, sports and other related fields rubbing shoulders with very old and endowed school. Some examples of the few achievements and progress made in these fields include the high percentage passes recorded and recent history made by placing 3rd in the Home Economics Practicals at the first entry in 2001
.

 

The school also won the Best Teacher Award, Tema District, technical school level for the years 1996 and 1999. The school won the 3rd position at the Regional level in 1995 and 1st position at the Regional level in 2002. In other areas like Sports the school has produced great athletes and footballers that include Dan Addo and Attakora Amaniampong who were among the cup-winning BlackStarlets squad of 1991 and 1995 respectively. Monica Twum, an athlete of the Olympic game squad. These is but a few of the numerous strides made by the school.
